About Fair Oak Farm:

Hi! Our family of five has been working since 2019 to restore our 40-acre property that straddles the towns of New Preston and Kent, Connecticut. Though it was a longtime farm, the land had not been cultivated for agricultural use in many decades. Under our stewardship, we have been learning as we go and managing it using the best practices of sustainable agriculture. Over the course of several years, we have brought back to life a 1/4 acre farm field where we are growing food, including tomatoes, beans, peppers, greens, watermelons, herbs, and more from organic and heirloom seeds. We cultivate our soil with certified organic products, including compost and mulch that we create at home. When we buy seeds and soil amendments, we do so from trusted sustainable businesses like High Mowing Organic Seeds, Johnny’s Selected Seeds, and Coast of Maine. We love our organically-fed chickens and plan to add more to our flock each season.

Over the last few seasons, we have also restored, through careful management, six acres for organic hay production, and brought our apple tree grove back to productivity. We are slowly clearing non-native invasive plants from our property, including the stone walls that border us, and restoring our wetlands and native pond.

We host a self-serve weekend farmstead where we sell our eggs, produce, and flowers, firewood, and more, payable with cash or by Venmo to @fairoakfarmct.

We are members of the Connecticut Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA) and are a Certified Wildlife Habitat® site with the National Wildlife Federation, which means we have created sanctuary spaces for wildlife on our property.  We are members of the Purple Martin Conservation Association and we also support the UCONN Master Gardener programs.

Fair Oak Farm was formerly known as Ash Grove Farm and was started, in the early 1800s, by the Hitchcock family who raised racehorses here.
